NVZ Implementation checklist
By now you will have already:
» Started keeping records:
- of the number and types of livestock and the days they spend on the holding
- the nitrogen produced by livestock each calendar year
- details of any livestock manures you bring on to or export off your holding
- a calculation showing the livestock manure N loading
» Recorded farm size in hectares, if this reduces/increases, your N Farm Limit will also alter
» Calculated manure storage capacity to provide sufficient storage for either 5 or 6 months depending on the type of manure produced on your holding, e.g. 5 months for cattle slurry
» Completed a risk map to identify field sites suitable for manure applications and recording dates of each crop in each field
» Discussed your project with the Environment Agency to ensure compliance.
When you are planning your project you will also need to consider the following:
» Involving your farm consultant when assessing your options
» Obtaining planning permissions if required
» Instructing contractors to provide detailed cost estimates
» Securing funding.
1st of January 2012
Latest date for compliance:
» The minimum manure storage capacity requirements come into force
» You must follow the closed periods where no spreading can take place
» Slurry spreading prohibited with a high trajectory over 4 metres
» N Max for grass falls to 300kg N/ha
» N efficiency for livestock manure increases.
Land within a Deferred Slurry Storage Area has until 1st January 2013 to comply (Shown in Purple on the NVZ map for England and Wales).
